BROWARD COUNTY ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST INTERNATIONAL TRADE MISSION TO BELIZE

Ft. Lauderdale, FL, January 19, 2016 – The Belize Ministry of International Trade, Private Sector Development and Petroleum has granted The Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce (GCACC) and the Belize American Chamber of Commerce of Florida (BACCOF) the opportunity to organize, plan and execute the very first International Trade Mission to Belize for March of 2016.

Belize is known to be a very unique territory bursting with opportunities in energy, education, international trade and development. There are so many synergies and opportunities for both countries to pursue now and in the future that the alliance seems almost seamless. “I am pleased to announce that a new International Airport in the Southern region of the country is scheduled to be completed and operational within this calendar year,” said the Hon. Erwin Contreras, Minister of Int’l Trade. He continued, “The Government of Belize (GOB) has mandated the construction and completion of a new Deep-Water Port located also within the southern part of the country, i.e. in the Stann Creek District. These two projects alone present tremendous opportunities for both of our individual, local economies.”

Broward is home to Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and 29 other adjoining municipalities. According to the 2013, U.S. Census, ninety-eight percent of all businesses in Broward County are made up of small to medium sized companies. These numbers make it appealing for many Broward County businesses to expand and do business in the region and vice versa. “Because of this landscape, Broward County is the perfect global strategic hub for these types of opportunities, especially as it relates to new international connections with the Fort LauderdaleHollywood International Airport as well as Florida’s #1 cargo seaport, Port Everglades” says Broward County’s Economic Development Specialist for International Trade, Ms. Paola Isaac Baraya.

“As a State Representative, I’ve made it my priority to make our municipalities, County, and our State, the best place in the world for businesses to grow and prosper. During this Trade Mission, we plan to incorporate and connect our local Foreign Trade Zones along with those in Belize, enabling significant potential benefits to our local businesses, while simultaneously providing a possible platform for those businesses in Belize to create trade relationships,” says FL State Representative for the 95th District, Rep. Hazelle P. Rogers.

“The mandate then, for our Belize-Broward Trade Mission, is to explore any and all potential strategic partnerships with Belize’s new international airport and deep-water port, in order to create formal, and mutually beneficial relationships between Broward County and Belize, starting with its Stann Creek District,” explains Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce President, Michael D Young, MS.

The Broward- Belize Trade Mission is scheduled for Thursday March 17th – Monday March 21st , 2016 to be hosted in Placencia, Belize C.A.

Additionally, on Tuesday February 9th, 2016, there will be formal presentation by the Ministry of International Trade of Belize at the Broward County Commission Meeting, along with a special presentation on “Doing Business with Belize” scheduled at 2pm at the City of Lauderdale Lakes Educational and Cultural Center organized in collaboration with the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development specifically designed to create matchmaking opportunities for companies on both sides. This foundation will ultimately set the stage for future marketing and sales efforts between the Florida and Belize businesses.
