Former Judge Confirmed as United States Ambassador to Belize
Retired California Supreme Court judge Carlos R. Moreno's nomination as the next U.S. Ambassador to Belize was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on Wednesday, May 14th, 2014. Mr. Moreno, a son of Mexican immigrants to the United States, was once lauded as a possible candidate for the U.S. Supreme Court. During Mr. Moreno's Senate confirmation hearing in October of 2013, when asked if he had ever visited Belize before, stated "Yes, about two years ago, and I've also visited the adjoining countries of Mexico and Guatemala, so I'm familiar in particular with the Yucatan and some of the Mayan archaeological sites that were referred to earlier."
